RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond Spiders redshirt senior DB Cooper Taylor has been selected as the 2012 CAA Football Student-Athlete of the Year, headlining an impressive list of 141 Academic All-Conference honorees for the 2012 season.

Along with Taylor, Richmond's Ben Edwards, Terrence Fullum, Austin Gund, David Herlocker, Doug Howell, Chad Kolumber, Joey Landess, John Laub, Darius McMillan, Jacob Pierce, Sean Ryan and Michael Strauss were all named to the 2012 CAA Football Academic All-Conference team.

"We are all very excited about this recognition of Cooper Taylor," Richmond head coach Danny Rocco remarked.  "Cooper has been an outstanding representative of our university as well as of our football program. His contributions to Richmond athletics have been greatly appreciated, and he is well deserving of this prestigious award."

Taylor has excelled both in the classroom and on the field over the course of his career, graduating in December with a cumulative 3.58 GPA and a degree in Business Management from the university's renowned Robins School of Business. The Atlanta native now becomes a two-time Academic All-Conference honoree after transferring to UR from Georgia Tech as a junior. Taylor was named a First Team Capital One Academic All-American in addition to receiving CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in December.

Richmond's senior defensive back also racked up the All-America accolades for his on-the-field accomplishments as well, capping off his collegiate career as a First Team Associated Press, Walter Camp and Sports Network All-American. The First Team All-CAA selection started all 10 games in which he appeared in 2012, finishing the season with 78 tackles, 5.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, four quarterback hurries and nine pass breakups.

To be eligible for the CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team, a player must be a starter or important reserve and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 4.00 scale) for his entire academic career. Transfers and first-year freshmen are eligible. Voting for the Student-Athlete of the Year award is conducted by CAA Football's 11 sports information directors, representing one vote per school.
