Spider Tennis Slides Past ECU With 4-3 Win

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.-  The women’s team picked up an impressive 4-3 win over East Carolina University on Thursday with strong performances across the field.

The Spiders rolled through the doubles point by winning at the No.1 and No.3 positions.  Melissa Kandinata and Katya Salas battled  Neena Wanko and Nicole DaLuca, pulling out an 8-5 win at the No. 1 position.   Anna Abadias and Emily Gitman took their fourth consecutive doubles win at the No. 3 position with an 8-3 victory.

The Spiders built off the excitement of taking the doubles point in singles play.

Kandinata breezed pass Neena Wanko with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 1 position. 

Alex Smyth put together a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 position.  The win is her third consecutive victory, improving her record to 5-7 in spring play.

All three of the freshmen dueled their opponents to three sets with Salas pulling out a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 position.  Her victory sealed the match for Richmond.

The Spiders improve to 6-11 on the year.  The team travels to Baltimore to face UMBC on Saturday.
