UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond fell to Duquesne, 11-8, Friday afternoon at Robins Stadium.
Richmond (4-10, 1-3) went on the attack first, scoring two quick unassisted goals by Kara Moschetti and Sam Stevenson. The Dukes (8-5, 3-1) would respond with three consecutive scores to retake the lead at 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining in the first frame.
From there, the score seesawed back and forth until the Dukes scored two back-to-back goals to take an 8-5 lead with 2:23 remaining. Moschetti scored again with 26 seconds left in the half to slash the deficit to 8-6.
Stevenson scored her game-high fourth goal of the game to open the second half and put the deficit to 8-7 with 21 minutes remaining. But Duquesne would counter with three-straight scores to take a 11-7 lead with 14:29 left. Jennifer Zoltoski would score what would be Richmond’s last goal at the 13:36 mark. The Dukes ran out the clock for the game’s last eight minutes.
Freshman Michaela Aymong had six saves in goal.
The Spiders remain at home to host St. Bonaventure Sunday at 12 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
