UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders held their final practice of training camp on Friday afternoon at Robins Stadium.
The Spiders practice for about 90 minutes on a cloudy, humid day in Richmond before having to leave the field due to lightning in the area. The team focused primarily on special teams, working on punting, kickoffs and field goals.
Both punters – David Braodus and Joe Gulli, Jr. – looked good on Friday. Gulli was particularly impressive, booming three punts well over 40 yards. Broadus continued his solid camp at punter, consistently totaling punts around 40 yards.
On field goals, Brandon Jordi had a good day, hitting 6-of-8. The sophomore was consistent from mid-range, missing only from 32 and 40 yards.
The Richmond Spiders football team will hold its media day on Saturday at Robins Stadium. The team will take team pictures and head coach Danny Rocco and the team captains will address the media.
"It looked pretty good. We covered a lot of situations and a lot of it was a good mix of fast tempo and teach tempo. There are so many different things that happen in the kicking game that you have to be prepared for: fakes, tricks, gimmicks and obviously when the ball bounces funny during the kicking game as well. Our punters continue to improve and I think we have two guys we can put in the game. Our kickers continue to improve and we have two guys as well to put in the game and we have a couple guys that can return the football, so I feel pretty good about that."
