GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Richmond men’s tennis team completed day one of competition at the ECU Shootout in Greenville, S.C.
In doubles play, brother tandem Ethan and Jacob Dunbar downed Miljan Ruzic/Sabastian Salinas, 8-2 in the Purple Pod bracket. Freshmen duo Canyon Teague and Alex Hahn picked up a win against Mason Smith/Maxi Branth, 8-7, in the Gold Pod division.
In singles action, the Dunbar brothers continued their dominance with both picking up wins. Freshman Jacob Dunbar defeated Garik Yedigarian (Coastal Carolina) 6-4, 6-3 while Ethan Dunbar downed Rob Stirling (James Madison) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Teague downed Niels Kathol (JMU) 6-2, 7-5 in the Pirate Pod division while freshman Stathi Kyriakides dominated Mason Smith (JMU), 6-0, 6-3.
Richmond continues action tomorrow at the ECU Shootout.
Day Two Recap
A three-hour rain delay caused action to start in the early afternoon of Day Two of the ECU Shootout. Richmond had two wins in the Purple Pod doubles with the Dunbar brothers picking up an 8-1 win over Damien Bernard/Mario Martinez of ECU. Dylan Trent/Jonathan Quenard downed Blake Daniel/Calvin Mark (Navy), 8-5.
In singles action, Jacob Dunbar defeated Austin Jones of Navy 6-1, 6-2 in the Purple Pod division. Hahn downed Blake Daniel (Navy) 6-3, 6-2 while Quenard beat Alex Gaines (Navy), 6-3, 6-2 in the Pirate Pod bracket.
Day Three Recap
Because of inclement weather in the area, only doubles were completed today at Day Three of the ECU Shootout. No flight champions were declared, due to weather.
Richmond returns to action next weekend at the Charlotte Fall Invitation.
