Spiders Finish Action At Wake Forest Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Richmond women’s tennis team finished day one of action at the Wake Forest Invitational.

Day One Recap:
In Flight A singles, Melissa Kandinata will face Andrea Crespo of Stetson in the consolation second round. Anna Abadias downed Jamie Grinberg of UNCG 7-5, 6-2 and will face Nataliyia Bredkihina of Maryland tomorrow.

Elizabeth Sims will face Sarah Stein of Davidson in Flight C singles action while Katya Salas will face Kristel Sanders (BSU) tomorrow. Brittany Boys will face MayBlue Stauffer MacDowell of Stetson in the Flight D consolation Saturday. Freshman Denny Lamachia will square off against Carson Shell (Appalachian State) in Fight F singles.

In doubles action, Anna Abadias/Brittany Boys cruised past Brittany Hill/Eveline Lepinay, 8-2 to advance in Flight B action. In Flight C doubles, Kelsey Williams/Emily Gitman defeated Alisha Burton/Asha Iyengar, 8-3.

Day Two Recap
The Spiders continued Day Two of action at the Wake Forest Invitational Saturday.

In Flight A singles, Melissa Kandinata defeated Andrea Crespo of Stetson, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to play Freda Jansaker Sunday. Elizabeth Sims will face Macy Vonderschmidt of Charlotte in the 13th place bracket Sunday. Katya Salas will square off against Isabella Fernadez of Stetson in the same bracket.

In Flight D singles, freshman Brittany Boys downed MayaBlue Stauffer McDowell of Stetson, 6-2, 6-4 and will face Tolley Rice of Elon Sunday.

In Flight F singles, freshman Denny Lamachia defeated Carson Shell of Appalachian State, 6-1, 6-1 and will face Brittany Hill of Stetson Sunday.

In doubles play, Kandinata/Salas defeated Ormond/Earnest of BSU, 8-7 (5) in the Flight A category. In Flight B doubles, Sims/Lamachia defeated Khoury/Lazarova of Elon, 8-4. In Flight C doubles in the fifth-place bracket, Nil Horoz/Georgina Pons Cano defeated King/Shell of Appalachian State, 8-7 (4) while Kelsey Williams/Emily Gitman downed Meregalli/Gonzalez (Stetson), 8-7 (6).

Day Three Recap
Richmond concluded action at the Wake Forest Invitational Sunday.

In Flight A singles, Melissa Kandinata defeated Frida Jansacker of Elon, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. In Flight C action, Elizabeth Sims defeated Macy Vonderschmidt (Charlotte), 7-5, 6-1 in the 13th place bracket.

In Flight E singles play, freshman Kelsey Williams downed Camille Amrani (Winthrop), 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth place bracket.

“We had great team chemistry,” said head coach Mark Wesselink. “The future looks bright. Our freshmen are coming around quickly. Denny [Lamachia] was very impressive this weekend, winning her flight which is amazing considering she’s a freshman. I like where we’re headed as a program.”

Richmond will play in the Atlantic Region Championships the weekend of Oct. 18.
