UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond men's basketball team opened practice on Friday in the middle of a construction zone.
The Spiders first official practice took place on a newly refurbished court in the middle of a $17 million renovation of the Robins Center that is nearing completion.
While Richmond practice, construction workers were scattered throughout the arena installing seats and getting the corner hospitality areas ready.
Due to the construction noise, head coach Chris Mooney opted to wear a wireless mic and his voice was projected to the team by two courtside speakers.
Richmond returns eight of its top 10 scorers off a team that went 19-15 and 8-8 in the Atlantic 10 last season.
The Spiders open the 2013-14 season in the New Robins Center on Nov. 8 against Delaware. Richmond’s first four games are home, including a visit from Minnesota of the Big Ten on Dec. 16.
