RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond women’s tennis team downed the Longwood Lancers, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Westhampton Courts for its second-straight win this spring.

“Today went very well,” commented head coach Mark Wesselink. “I am very pleased with our performance today and how our ladies responded after doubles. Our singles play is really starting to show improvements as our season begins.”

After falling in the doubles portion, the Spiders held strong as they only dropped one singles match.

Anna Abadias Morales led the way for Richmond as she easily downed Paloma Alatorre, 6-0, 6-1, on court two.

In addition to Abadias Morales, Elizabeth Sims, Katya Salas, Brittany Boys and Denny Lamachia picked up wins to secure the 5-2 victory.

The Spiders will enjoy a two-week break before hitting the courts Friday, Feb. 14 against West Virginia in Norfolk, Va., at 12:30 p.m.
