UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Redshirt-junior Ethan Dunbar of the Richmond men’s tennis team has become Richmond’s first nationally ranked Spider in program history as he entered in the top-125 singles players in the country this week.
"Ethan being the first player in University of Richmond history to earn an individual ITA ranking is awesome,” commented Richmond head coach Ben Johnson. “He deserves a lot of credit for achieving something that's never been done here."
Dunbar currently sits No. 119 as he is coming off a 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory over No. 30-ranked Joran Vliegen of East Carolina last Wednesday.
The top Spider holds a 19-9 singles record this season, including a 14-6 mark this spring. Five of Dunbar’s six losses have come from top-100 players.
"Ethan's perseverance and pursuit to improve has not only allowed himself to improve, but also his teammates around him. We are lucky to have Ethan here," added Johnson.
The Richmond men’s tennis team will be in action Thursday, April 10 at conference foe George Mason at 3 p.m.
