UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women’s lacrosse will use a combination of experience and new talent to take on a challenging but familiar 2017 schedule, as announced by head coach Allison Kwolek.
“I am excited about how our schedule lays out for the upcoming season,” Kwolek said. “It is comprised of a great mix of schools and our nonconference schedule will prepare us for the demands of Atlantic 10 play.”
Richmond will face a familiar schedule to that of the 2016 season, with all but two contest played against those featured on the schedule last season, including four 2016 NCAA participants.
The Spiders will kick off the season on the road, when they travel to Lynchburg to face familiar nonconference foe Liberty on February 18.
After the season-opening road trip, the team will return to Robins Stadium for a five-game home stint, starting with NCAA powerhouse Virginia on February 22. The Spiders will then host Old Dominion (March 1) and American (March 4) to start the month, before taking on Lehigh on March 11, facing the Sky Hawks for the first time since the 1984 season. They will then round out the home nonconference schedule with James Madison on March 15.
The Spiders will travel to first-time opponent Campbell on March 19, before heading to Williamsburg on March 25 to round out nonconference play against a team they’ve played 38 times in William & Mary.
The Atlantic 10 season begins at home in 2017, with a March 31 contest against Duquesne. Then a three-game road swing through the beginning of April faces the Spiders, with games at La Salle (April 2), George Washington (April 7) and 2016 A-10 Champion UMass (April 9).
The Spiders return home to host Davidson on April 13, before turning around and heading to Fairfax to take on George Mason on April 16.
The final home weekend of the season is set for April 21 and 23, when St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph’s come to Robins Stadium. The Spiders then round out the 2017 regular season down the road, when they head to VCU on April 29.
The 2017 Atlantic 10 tournament, hosted by Saint Joseph’s, will take place in Philadelphia from May 4-7. The Spiders have competed in six of the last seven A-10 Championship games, after completing an unprecedented run last season to the title game.
