FAIRFAX, Va. -- On the second day of the Patriot Invite, senior Irina Chiulli and the 800 free relay team highlighted the University of Richmond performance on the second day of the Patriot Invitational.
Chiulli closed out the diving portion of the Patriot Invitational by winning the 1M event, as she won both the prelims (244.05) and the finals (257.70). Yesterday, she won the 3M event with another NCAA Zone Qualifying mark. She has already hit NCAA Zone Qualifying marks in both the 1M and 3M events
In her debut on the 1M board, freshman Maddy Chao finished sixth in the prelims with a score of 214.05 and moved up to fifth in the finals with a score of 222.70. Classmate Sydney Weiskopf finished eighth overall at 211.05. Junior Laura Rokop and senior Mikaela Gekas-Robinson finished ninth and 19th, respectively.
The Spiders' 800 free relay team of freshman Virginia Marsh, Lane, Wallace and Soulia placed second touching the wall at 7:35.22. The 200 medley team of Gouger, Lane, Matheson and Robertson, recorded a time of 1:48.15.
Freshman Hannah Gouger finished fourth overall in the 100 back stroke with a time of 56.42. Senior Maggie Pope and sophomore Brynn Robertson logged season-bests in the event at 57.89 and 1:01.01, respectively.
In the 400 IM sophomore Nicole Piercy turned in the faststest time by a Spider thus far at 4:31.36.
Senior Hannah Matheson was the first Spider to touch the wall in the 100 fly with a time of 57.93 while sophomore Morgan Soulia clocked her season-best 59.62. Also turning in a season-best was sophomore Lauren Wallace who touched the wall at 1:56.07 in the 200 free. Junior Annie Lane competed in the 100 breast stroke for the first time this season and recorded a time of 1:07.65.
The Patriot Invitational will wrap up tomorrow with the following events: 1650 free, 100 IM, 200 back stroke, 100 free, 200 breast stroke, 200 fly, and the the 400 free relay. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. while finals of the events scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
