NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Richmond Women’s indoor track & field team opened the 2016-17 season on Sunday with some impressive finishes at the CNU Holiday Open.
Freshman Maria Acosta led the way for the Spiders, starting her collegiate career with a win in the 600 meter run after posting a time of 1:36.81. Fellow freshman Stacey Dec also competed in the 600 meters, finishing ninth with a time of 1:48.21.
Also on the track, senior Mary Allen led the way for the Spiders in the 400 meter dash, finishing sixth with a time of 1:00.23. Freshmen Gabby Bowen and Bailey Gillespy also competed in the event, finishing 12th and 31st, respectively.
Senior Alena McGonigle competed in the shot put event, finishing 23rd with a long throw of 9.49m.
The Spiders return to action on Friday, January 13, when they travel to Blacksburg to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational.
