UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – When it comes to perennial national powers in FCS football, the conversation must include the Richmond Spiders.
The Spiders capped off an incredible decade of success with another double-digit win total, another trip deep into the FCS playoffs and for the fifth time in the past 10 years, finished in the top-10 of the final FCS poll, ranked #8 in the poll, which was released on Monday afternoon.
This year’s team reached the FCS playoffs for a third consecutive season, marking only the second time in school history that the Spiders earned three straight postseason berths.
Richmond is one of just three programs to reach the FCS Quarterfinals in both 2015 and 2016, joining Sam Houston State and North Dakota State.
The Spiders finished with double-digit wins (10) for the fifth time in the past decade. This year’s squad tied the program record with five victories over nationally-ranked opponents.
Twelve different Spiders earned All-CAA accolades, while four of them earned All-American recognition following the year including Griffin Trau, Brian Brown, Winston Craig and Omar Howard.
Richmond has now finished in the top-25 seven times in the past decade.
