NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Expectations are high for the Spider men's golf program as it opens the 2017 spring season. UR was picked second in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches Poll.
UR received two first-place votes and was just three votes shy of first-place Dayton. Richmond has finished second in the Atlantic 10 tournament three years in a row.
The Spiders enter the spring after a strong fall which included a tournament victory in Ireland over Davidson and Rutgers.
Richmond will be paced by junior Matthew Lowe and senior Keegan Hoff. Lowe averaged a score 72.00 and Hoff had an average of 72.30 over 10 rounds in the fall. They combined for two top 10 finishes and three top-20 finishes.
Senior Mark Reilly had the most under-par rounds (5) of the fall as he averaged 73.10 strokes per round, while the freshmen Zack Justice and Andrew Sciaretta each add quality depth to Richmond's starting lineup.
The Spiders will open the spring on Monday, Feb. 20 in the Atlantic 10 Match Play tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
