In the coming weeks, the University of Richmond women’s soccer team will highlight members of the 2017 signing class through a “Getting to Know” segment on RichmondSpiders.com.

Name: Natalie Chandler
Position: Defense
Hometown: Hillsborough, N.C.
High School: Orange

Coach Peter Albright on Chandler: Natalie is a defender who brings some special qualities: she has a very long throw-in which can be an offensive weapon, and she is a natural lefty who has an advantage attacking on the left side, and she has very good pace. Like many in her class, Natalie is a very smart player who we expect to develop into an everyday player.

At what age did you begin playing soccer: 7 years old

Why do you love playing soccer?: It makes me genuinely happy. I love being a part of a team and working together. It's competitive and challenging. It pushes me to always be better.

Why Richmond?: It has a small student body, prestigious academics and a family atmosphere.

What are you most excited about about when thinking of joining the Spider Family? I will really be joining a family. I'm so excited to make life-long friends and tons of memories with great people.

What do you do before each game?: Eat peanut butter and an apple, braid my hair, try to find my old pre-wrap in the bottom of my bag, and do my funny back/shoulder stretch.

If you could have dinner with anyone celebrity, who and why?: Alex Trebek. I'm Jeopardy's biggest fan (I watch every weekday night at 7 on the days I don't have practice). He's super intelligent and seems to be pretty witty. He'd be an interesting person to talk to.

If you were granted one wish, what you want it to be?: Reverse climate change

What is your dream job?: Person who travels around the world and helps nations develop/function sustainably (I don't know what that job title is).

What are your hobbies/interests?: Spending time with my dog, singing, watching HGTV and Food Network, baking, hiking

What is your favorite…
