FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Richmond Spiders opened the spring tournament season with a thunderous statement, winning the 14-team Ft. Lauderdale Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Ft. Lauderdale Country Club.
The Spiders shot a combined score of 281 (-7) in the final round to finish with a final scorecard of 292-298-281=871 (+7). Richmond's final round team score tied for the fourth lowest in school history.
Senior Keegan Hoff had a fantastic tournament, keyed by his round of 67 (-5) on Tuesday. Hoff won his first career individual medalist by shooting 74-71-67=212 (-4). He was just one stroke off his career-low tournament.
Senior Mark Reilly finished strong with a final round of 69 (-3), setting a new career-best round for him. He finished at 72-77-69=218 (+2) to place sixth overall. It marked his second career top-10 finish.
Freshman Andrew Sciarretta shot 78-77-76=231 (+15) for the tournament.
Richmond has now won two tournaments this year after taking the title at the Waterville Intercollegiate in Waterville, Ireland last fall.
The Spiders resume play on March 19 in Wilmington, N.C., for the Seahawk Intercollegiate.
