NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The historic season of the University of Richmond men’s tennis team continues to draw recognition.
Senior Jacob Dunbar and redshirt freshman John Karlawish swept the Atlantic 10 Weekly awards for the second time this season after leading the Spiders to four wins this past week to extend their winning streak to 19, dating back to Jan. 21.
On the week, Dunbar went 3-0 in singles actions and 2-0 in doubles, while Karlawish went 2-1 in singles and 4-0 in doubles.
With Dunbar’s victories this past week, he became the first player in school history with 100 career singles wins. The Medina, Ohio native is now 101-23 overall in his four seasons and 77-12 in spring matches.
This year, Dunbar is 28-5 overall, including 15 straight wins at the #1 spot in Richmond’s lineup.
Karlawish won his second A-10 Rookie of the Week honor and is now 14-2 on the spring in singles action, while he has teamed with junior James Aronson for a perfect 17-0 mark in doubles this spring.
Richmond returns to action this Saturday when it takes on perennial Atlantic 10 contender George Washington in a critical match. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
