GASTONIA, N.C.Matthew Lowe stepped on the course in third and final round of the Gary Koch Invitational with his game face on and did not disappoint. The junior produced the best round of his spring, carding a three-under 69, en route to completing the tournament with a two-under par 214 for the week; good for a tie for ninth overall. The team went on to finish 12th.

Lowe’s scores improved with each round after posting a three-over 75 in round one on Monday. He followed with back-to-back rounds under par (70, 69) to erase the damage and finish in the top 10. During Tuesday’s round alone, Lowe jumped 13 places in the standings thanks in large part to six birdies, three of which came on the last four holes. Prior to this, Lowe’s best round of the season came in the fall when he shot a three-under 69 at the Collegiate in the middle of October.

Keegan Hoff was the second best Spider finisher behind Lowe. He contributed rounds of 74, 70 on Monday and a 76 today to finish four-over par with a 220-tournament total. Those numbers were good enough to finish in a tie for 34th overall.

Mark Reilly (78, 72, 79, +13), Andrew Sciarretta (75, 76, 80, +15) and Zack Justice (74, 80, 83, +21) rounded out the Spider lineup this week as the team competed and showed well against 14 other programs in a star-studded event.

The men’s golf team will be off next week before making the trip to Orlando, Fla. the following weekend (Apr. 28-30) for the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship which is being held at Grand Cypress CC. The Spiders finished second last season and will be looking to exorcise those demons when the time comes.
