UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women’s tennis team boasts a talented group of newcomers, including rookie Lea Owens.

This past weekend, Owens led the way for the Spiders, going undefeated through singles and doubles play to earn Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.

The Olney, Md., native paired up with senior Kelsey Williams in the No. 3 doubles spot against both Duquesne and George Washington, winning 6-4 and 6-1 in those matches, respectively. She has been an integral part of the Spiders’ dominant doubles play this season.

In singles play, she took down Duquesne’s Megan Wasson, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, before moving up to the No. 2 spot on Sunday in a 4-2 win and taking down Colonial opponent, Marie-Louise Decamps, 6-3, 6-4.

The Spiders return to action on Saturday, April 15, when they travel to Davidson at 11 a.m.
