Spiders Come Up Short at Davidson, 5-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Richmond women’s tennis team once again dominated doubles play, but couldn’t come away with a win, falling 5-2 to Davidson on Saturday afternoon.

The Spiders started the match taking two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Freshmen Kiana Marshall and Lyndell Giffenig won at No. 1, 7-6 (4), while the pair of Lea Owens and Kelsey Williams took a 6-4 victory on court 3.

The Wildcats took over in singles play, winning five matches to clinch the win. Marshall was able to come away with a win at No. 4, taking down Samantha Armas, 6-7 (8), 6-1, 10-8.

The Spiders return to action on Tuesday, April 18, when they host crosstown rival VCU in their final home match of the season. First serve is set for 3 p.m., and the match will be streamed live on SpiderTV.
