LUBBOCK, Texas – If you look through collegiate baseball history, there’s been several of the game’s finest that have helped their teams both at the plate and on the mound.

Daniel Brumbaugh of the University of Richmond baseball team has established himself among the nation’s best this season as the Lewisville, Texas native was named to the 2017 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List on Tuesday.

Brumbaugh, the Spiders’ starting second baseman, hits in the three hole and leads the team in triples (4) and homeruns (3), while knocking in 22 RBIs, which ranks second on the team and a .338 batting average which ranks third for the Spiders.

He’s hit safely in 30 of his 34 games this year and he currently ranks in the top-10 in the country for toughest hitters to strikeout.

On the mound, Brumbaugh has appeared in 10 games this spring, three of which were weekend starts for the Spiders. He’s tossed 26 innings, allowing just 22 hits and striking out 25, while racking up a 3-1 record and just a 3.81 ERA. Opposing hitters are hitting just .227 against the right-hander.

Brumbaugh and the Spiders are back in Atlantic 10 action this weekend when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for a three-game set against Saint Joseph’s.
