Spiders Set to Battle Bonnies on Friday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. The University of Richmond women’s lacrosse team enters its final home weekend of the season, which begins with an A-10 showdown against St. Bonaventure on Friday. First draw at Robins Stadium is set for 4 p.m.

ABOUT THE SPIDERS
Richmond is coming off of another 1-1 weekend in A-10 play after taking down Davidson, 16-8, and falling at George Mason, 16-11. Kim Egizi led the way on the weekend, totaling 10 points on three goals and six assists, while Kathleen Berkery scored twice and assisted on six other goals for eight points. Marissa Brown and Sam Geiersbach also had an offensive impact, each logging five points. Brown leads the team with 57 points on 25 goals and 32 assists, while Geiersbach is second with 55 points on 42 goals and 13 assists and Egizi is third with 50 points on 26 goals and 24 assists. Megan Gianforte has played every minute in goal for the Spiders, stopping 128 shots and allowing 9.57 goals per game.

ABOUT THE BONNIES
St. Bonaventure is coming off of a 1-1 weekend after defeating Duquesne, 13-11, and falling to UMass, 19-5. The Bonnies are led offensively by Taylor Fallon and Scarlet Jaworski, who each have 31 points on the year. Morgan Conroy has seen the majority of time in goal, making 152 saves and allowing 14.30 goals per game

SERIES HISTORY
The Spiders hold  13-2 advantage over the Bonnies all-time after taking a 17-13 win last season. St. Bonaventure has not defeated the Spiders since 2006, when the Bonnies logged a 12-10 win in Olean.

SPIDERS TO CELEBRATE SENIORS
Sunday’s home finale against Saint Joseph’s will be the final home game for seniors Natalia Chaney, Leslie Espenschied and Melissa Teel. The Spiders will celebrate the careers of the trio before the game, which is set to begin at 1 p.m.

BROWN WITH THE ASSIST
Sophomore Marissa Brown is having a season for the record books after an impressive rookie campaign in 2016. The attacker leads the team with 32 assists this season, and is just four away from tying the program single-season record set back in 2008 by Mandy Friend.

A FORCE IN THE CAGE
Goalie Megan Gianforte is on fire this season and has earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Week three times for her efforts. The freshman is making her way up the national rankings, heading into the weekend with a .489 save percentage, the 18th-best in the nation, and allowing just 9.57 goals per game, which ranks 21st. Her 9.14 saves per game rank 24th in the country.

ROOKIE ON A ROLL
Freshman Sam Geiersbach is off to a hot start in her first season as a Spider. The attacker has scored 42 goals in Richmond’s 14 games this season, logging seven hat tricks and going scoreless just once. The four-time A-10 Rookie of the Week is second on the team with 55 points.

QUEALLY DRAWS TO PROGRAM RECORD
Midfielder Caroline Queally became the program’s all-time leader in draw-control wins with 203 in the Spiders’ 18-8 win at LaSalle. The junior has now won 218 draws, and ranked ninth nationally among active players in career goals per game entering weekend play.

EGIZI HITS THE CENTURY MARK
Junior attacker Kim Egizi scored twice and assisted on two other goals in the Spiders’ season-opener win over Liberty to reach the 100-career point mark. The co-captain has now scored 86 goals and added 60 assists in her career.
