RICHMOND, Va. - After
helping the Richmond Spiders defeat the No. 2-ranked James Madison Dukes this
past Saturday at a sold-out Robins Stadium, DB Aaron Roane was named CAA
Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced.
"Aaron is really having an outstanding season," head coach Danny Rocco said. "He plays a position for us that is very difficult to play and has been extremely productive all year long. He's putting together a complete season for us and I thought he was outstanding against James Madison."
Roane was all over the field defensively for the Spiders in their victory over JMU, totaling a game and career-high 14 tackles, including seven solo stops. Roane also had his second sack of the year and came up with one of the biggest plays of the game, stopping JMU's Justin Thorpe at the line on a critical fourth-and -1.
On the season, the West Point, Va. native leads Richmond in tackles with 61 - tied for fourth most in the CAA. Roane has also tallied 4.5 tackles for loss to go with his two sacks and pair of pass breakups.
The Richmond Spiders football team will play host to the Rhode Island Rams on Homecoming at Robins Stadium on November 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
