UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond will play five NCAA Tournament teams in 2012 as announced by head coach Peter Albright Tuesday.
Richmond opens its 2012 schedule with NCAA Final Four participant, Wake Forest, at the Virginia Tech tournament Aug. 17. Two days later, the Spiders face NCAA participant Virginia Tech. The Spiders also travel to NCAA participant William & Mary Aug. 29.
"Top to bottom, this is one of our strongest schedules ever," said head coach Peter Albright. "We have a tough non-conference schedule preparing us for A-10 play. The A-10 has become arguable the strongest mid-major soccer conference in the country. We are excited to play our new conference members, and we're challenged to build on last year's success."
The Spiders host NCAA participant La Salle Oct. 5 at Robins Stadium and travel to defending A-10 champion Dayton Oct. 26.
The A-10 will welcome two new schools to the conference this fall in Butler University and cross-town rival, VCU. The Spiders host Butler Oct. 12 and play at VCU Oct. 20.
Richmond ended its 2011 season with a 13-5-3 mark, its most wins since 2002. A-10 Offensive Player of the Year Becca Wann returns, as does 18 letterwinners, including six starters.
