Men's Tennis Finishes Fall Play At ITA Atlantic Regionals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Richmond men's tennis team participated in the ITA Atlantic Regional tournament in Charlottesville, Va. It marked the last bout of competition before dual match play in the spring.

"I was happy with the way our A.J. Nelson performed on Wednesday," said head coach Ben Johnson. "He played the big points well against a tough competitor from Virginia Tech."

Nelson, a product of Shreve, Ohio, downed Luca Oliveira of Virginia Tech, 7-6(5), 0-6, 7-6(2) in the first day of competition. ,br>

Reigning A-10 Rookie Performer of the Year, Sebastien Fauchet battled GW's Christopher Kushma, but fell 7-6(4), 6-2.

A-10 second teamer Jesse Feder picked up a win over Shane Yap of UMBC, 6-0, 6-0 in the consolation singles draw. Feder dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Jason Lee of Penn State in the main draw singles division.

"Jesse did a good job rebounding from Wednesday tough lose," said Johnson. "He made some adjustments and played closer to his potential."

Richmond opens its 2011 season at William & Mary Jan. 13 at 5:00 p.m.
