DICKY V'S EARLY PRESEASON TOP-40

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - ESPN's Dick Vitale has Richmond ranked No. 29 in his early preseason top-40, already the fifth preseason ranking that has the Spiders ranked in the top 35 in the nation.

Vitale ranking the Spiders No. 29 is the third highest pick for Richmond this summer. Richmond was picked No. 21 by FoxSports.com's Jeff Goodman and No. 26 by CBSsports.com's Gary Parrish.

SI.com's Luke Winn and CollegeHoops.net have the Spiders No. 32 in the country, while ESPN.com's Andy Katz had the Spiders included in his "Ten More on the Cusp,," outside of his top-25.

The 2009-10 Spiders, who finished the season ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll, went 13-3 in the Atlantic 10, just a two-point double-overtime loss at Xavier from sharing the conference regular-season title. Richmond advanced to the Atlantic 10 title game, where they were edged by No. 12 ranked Temple 56-52.

Richmond loses two starters, David Gonzalvez and Ryan Butler, but returns every other roster player from the 2009-10 NCAA Tournament team, including conference Player of the Year and Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American Kevin Anderson.
