UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Darrius Garrett came up just short of his second double-double of the season as the Spiders dropped a 79-68 decision to UMass on Saturday at the Robins Center.
Garrett went 3-for-6 from the field and finished with nine points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds and four blocks.
After a brief one-game hiatus, sophomore Cedrick Lindsay rejoined the Spider lineup to post 11 points, and classmate Derrick Williams followed suit with 11 tallies to reach double figures for the third-consecutive contest.
Richmond (11-9, 2-3 A-10) went 20-for-62 (32.3%) from the floor and remained consistent at the line with its 24-for-32 (75%) clip tonight. The Spiders neared a season-low with eight turnovers while forcing 21 points off the Minutemen's 14 giveaways. They also hauled in a season-high 17 offensive boards on the night.
UMass (15-5, 4-2 A-10) shot 28-for-58 (48.3%) and went 19-for-22 (86.4%) at the line. The Minutemen were led by sophomore Jesse Morgan, who went 7-for-11 from the floor to finish with a game-high 20 points. Classmate Chaz Williams cashed in on a 10-for-10 night at the charity stripe with senior Sean Carter and freshman Maxie Esho also finishing in double figures.
The Spiders wrap up their short two-game homestand on Wednesday when they welcome Fordham to the Robins Center for a 7 p.m. tip.
