UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond out-shot UMass 16-13 and controlled play in overtime, but the Minutewomen converted a penalty corner in the 80th minute to top the Spiders 2-1 Sunday.

Sunday's game featured the two teams that have combined to win the last 14 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championships and was a rematch of a 2009 A-10 semifinal game in Amherst won by the Spiders' 1-0.

After a scoreless first half, Richmond senior Dani Pycroft put the Spiders on the board 6:22 into the second half on a penalty corner. Junior Katelin Peterson inserted the ball to senior Hannah Hess, who sent it back to the left side of the circle. Pycroft's shot deflected off the keeper and hit the crossbar before crossing the goal line.

The goal was Pycroft's seventh of the season and 26th of her career. She now has 64 career points, closing in on Richmond's top-10 career list for both points and goals.

UMass answered just three minutes later when Thando Zono socred on a penalty corner off assists from Nikki Panciocco and Jamie Bourazeris.

Zono struck again on a corner, this time from the left side as UMass improved to 3-0 in conference play.

Richmond returns to action Friday at West Chester at 3 p.m. and plays at La Salle next Sunday.
