SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – A truly great comeback story is getting even better.
Former University of Richmond football star Tim Hightower’s NFL journey is headed to the Pacific Coast after the former Spider signed a contract with the San Francisco 49ers over the weekend.
Hightower, who will be playing in his seventh NFL season next year, has quite a story to tell.
After three stellar years with the Arizona Cardinals (2008-10), Hightower signed with the Redskins and suffered multiple injuries that nearly ended his career.
Through perseverance and work ethic, Hightower got his return shot in 2015 with the Saints, who played him in the final eight games and kept him on for all 16 games last season, when he was named the organization’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee.
During his outstanding four-year career at Richmond, Hightower was a two-time all-conference honoree, finishing as the program’s all-time leader in career rushing yards with 3,712 and touchdowns with 34.
