UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team fell in Sunday’s rubber match, 16-5, to defending Atlantic 10 Champions, Rhode Island.
Much like Saturday’s game, Rhode Island got things started early. Mike Corin blasted a three-run shot and a two-out double put the Rams ahead 4-0 after the first.
Rhode Island plated a total of eight runs in the fourth and fifth to go ahead 12-1. The Rams tacked on two more in the seventh before Watters scored thanks to some Rhody miscues to make it a 14-2 ball game.
The Rams extended their lead with a run in the eighth. In the home half of the inning, Jonathan de Marte blasted his second career home run over the right field wall to make it 15-3. URI would add one more in the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Spiders loaded the bases with one out and plated two runs off an RBI fielder’s choice and another Rhody miscue before the game went final at 16-5.
Richmond will conclude its four-game home stand on Tuesday, April 18 when in-state rival William & Mary comes to Pitt Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3PM.
