NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Three vital members of the University of Richmond baseball team were honored on Wednesday with the announcement of the annual All-Atlantic 10 teams by the conference office.

Junior shortstop Vinny Capra earned a spot on the All A-10 Second Team, while sixth-year veterans Jonathan de Marte and Zach Grossfeld were both named to the All A-10 Academic Squad.

“I'm happy for these three guys being honored for the hard work they put in all year long, beginning the fall. They really were a critical part of leading the way and helping us compete until the very end,” Head Coach Tracy Woodson said.

Capra joined the Spiders after two seasons at Eastern Florida State Junior College and made an immediate impact at the top of Richmond's lineup. He led the team with a .355 batting average, which ranked second in the Atlantic 10. He also led the team in hits (75), runs scored (47) and doubles (14).

“Vinny did a great job of stepping right in and giving us a reliable bat and glove all season long,” Woodson added. “In his first year at this level, he didn't miss a beat and we're excited to have him back for next year.”

Grossfeld (Master's in Liberal Arts) and de Marte (Master's in Human Resource Management) depart Richmond with their both bachelor's and Master's degrees, each posting grade point averages over 3.7.

de Marte hit in the middle of Richmond's lineup all year long, finishing with a team high five home runs and 47 RBIs and a team-leading 2.67 ERA. Grossfeld led the team with 25 appearances, tossing 35.2 innings and striking out 25.
