Spider Sports Network Broadcast Teams
Bob Black, a voice synonymous with University of Richmond athletics, provides the play-by-play account for Spider football, men's basketball and baseball broadcasts. He has called Spider athletic events since the 1983-84 basketball season. During that span, Black has been behind the microphone for every NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament game that Richmond has ever played. Black hosts weekly radio call-in shows with head men's basketball coach Chris Mooney and head football coach Dave Clawson during the season.
Considered one of the premier broadcasters in the state of Virginia, Black was honored with the 1997 and 2000 Virginia Sportscaster of the Year Award.
A 1981 graduate of Syracuse University, Black and his wife, Karen reside in Richmond, Va., with their son and daughter, Will (10) and Sarah (16).
Former defensive standout Jasmonn Coleman joined Black as analyst for football broadcasts in 2005, and returns for his second season in the booth in 2006. Coleman, a Richmond native from Henrico High School, helped make the Richmond defense tops in the Atlantic 10 in the late 1990's.
Joining Black and Coleman is sideline reporter Matt Smith, who returns for his fourth full season in 2006 of providing a field-level analysis of the game and postgame interviews from the Spider locker room.
On men's basketball broadcasts, former Spider guard Greg Beckwith, the program's all-time steals and assists leader, joins Black to provide analysis. Beckwith, a member of the University of Richmond Athletics Hall of Fame, was the starting point guard on the Spiders' first-ever NCAA team in 1984, and returned to the Big Dance his senior season in 1986.
