CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Meaghan McGovern won the hammer throw to highlight the Richmond track & field team's performance this weekend at the Lou Onesty Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia.

McGovern's toss of 48.94m was good for the gold medal, with Monica Howard finishing fourth with a mark of 47.67m. Howard also finished fourth in the discus (45.67m) and was 15th in the shot (10.59m).

Also in the field events, Heather Roush was fifth in the discus (45.01m), Nellie Henigin was 11th in the shot (11.82m) and Megan Ney was eighth in the long jump (5.40m).

Other highlights for the women on the track included Emma Berry racing to an eighth-place finish in the 3,000m (10:49.92), Andi Defonce taking 11th in the 800m (2:19.69) and Diana Filtz taking 12th in the 1,500m (4:50.55).

Two fourth-place finishes by Sean Welsh and Garrett Graham highlighted the men's performance at the meet, while Chris Eccleston was fifth in the javelin.

Welsh was clocked in 1:52.03 in the 800m to take fourth and Graham finished in 4:01.03 in the 1,500m to take fourth.

Eccleston tossed the javelin 54.35m to take fifth.

 

 

Richmond's schedule has the Spiders at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays next weekend in Walnut, Calif.
