NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Richmond track & field team brought a busy weekend to a close Saturday afternoon with a number of solid performances at the Christopher-Newport Blue & Silver Challenge in Newport News, Va., highlighted by Meaghan McGovern setting the facility record in the hammer.

As the track season winds down, next weekend's Penn Relays is the final meet before the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship.

McGovern, a freshman, tossed the hammer a season-best 52.71m to win the event and shatter the CNU facility record of 47.71m set in 1997. Moncia Howard's mark of 47.47m was good for second.

Other notable performances for the women included Diana Filtz setting a pair of season-best times in both the 1,500m (4:48.51) and the 800m (2:27.68), Megan Ney winning the long jump (5.44m) and triple jump (11.68m), while X'auntasia Johnson (5.12m) and Gisele Adanlete (4.77m) each posted season-best marks in the long jump.

Johnson was second in the triple event, along with Geneen Dore taking third in a season-best 10.56m. The 200m saw both Dore (26.94) and Jasmine Cottle (25.53) set season lows.

Dore also ran as part of the 4x100m relay with Jasmine Cottle, JoAnna Ubiwa and Ney that posted a season-low time of 48.20.

A number of Richmond football players have joined the men's squad, providing depth for the Spiders in the field and sprint events. The men's 100m saw Tremayne Graham finish in 10.80, Seth Williams in 11.08, Kevin Grayson in 11.35 and Eric McBride in 11.63.

In the 200m, Jordan Mitchell finished in a time of 22.22, followed by Steve Rachman (22.90), McBride (23.95) and Dan Petty (26.40).

Graham, Grayson, Williams and Mitchell ran the 4x100m relay that finished in 42.38 and narrowly missed the school record by four-hundreths of a second.

Chris Eccleston (6.16m) and Petty (4.46m) each set season-bests in the long jump, while Chris Kondorossy (13.24m), Pierre Turner (13.21) and Dan Petty (7.24m) each set season-high in the shot put.

In the discus, Turner measured in at 46.84m with Kondorossy throwing 39.57m.
