Women's Track And Field Captures Second

RICHMOND, VA - Senior Diane Schreiber earned Most Outstanding Field Performer as the University of Richmond women's and men's track and field teams finished second and seventh, respectively, in the Atlantic 10 Championships held at Sports Backers Stadium today. The women finished with 144.5 points, while the men seized 51 points during the two-day event. In addition to being awarded the individual accolade, Schreiber (Johnsonburg, Pa.) was also named to the All-Conference First Team for the Hammer (50.96m) and the Second Team for her effort in the Shot Put (13.62m). She also finished third in the Discus (41.54m), while freshman Leslie Gleue (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) garnered fourth-place (41.30m) in the same event. Freshman Beth Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa.) joined Schreiber on the All-Conference First Team after her first-place performance in the Javelin (42.57m), yesterday. Senior Lyndsey Webber, freshmen Rachel Brushett and Lindsey Smith and the members of the 4x800 relay team were all named to the All-Conference Second Team. Webber (Sayville, N.Y.) took second in the 5000M Run (18:01.26), Brushett (Silver Springs, Md.) in the High Jump (1.65m), Smith in the Javelin (41.39m), and the 4x800 relay team crossed the finish line at 9:17.58.
Sophomore Cathy McLane (New Paltz, N.Y.) finished third in the Pole Vault (3.00m), while junior Ashley Bell (Glen Allen, Va.) and sophomore Danielle Eaton took fourth in the Triple Jump (11.37m) and 800M Run (2:16.66), respectively.
Fifth-place performances were earned by sophomores Nicole Kurtain (Hamilton, N.J.) in the 5000M run (18:28.87) and Amy Thesing (Columbia, S.C.) in the 400 Hurdles (1:06.13). Senior Kevin Rhue (Virginia Beech, Va.) earned All-Conference First Team accolades for his 3:53.30 performance in the 1,500M Run. He also finished fifth in the 800M Run with a time of 1:55.38. Junior Brett Walton (Bridgewater, Va.) garnered All-Conference Second Team honors for his 6082 points that secured second-place in the Decathlon. The 4x800M Relay team claimed third-place with a time of 7:49.00, while sophomore John Ciccarelli finished at 15:25.50 in the 5000M Run for fifth. The Spiders resume action on May 8th in the JMU Last Chance Meet. |
