Track & Field Opens Indoor Season At Liberty Kickoff
Dec. 1, 2007 LYNCHBURG, Va. - The women's track and field team opened its indoor season this weekend at the Liberty Kickoff and Jasmine Major led the way with a bronze medal in the 60 meter hurdles. Major posted a time of 9.03 in the 60 meter hurdles, which was good for a bronze medal in the event. She also raced to the line in the 60 meter dash in 7.78, but did make the championship heat. The Spiders accounted for spots six through 10 in the shot put, with Alicia Cayton's mark of 39-4.00 leading the way in sixth place. Monica Howard and K'Lynn Robinson each posted marks of 39-1.25 and Heather Roush's toss of 38-1.25 was good for 10th. Howard also finished fifth in the weight throw with a throw of 43-3.75. Samella Koroma had a mark of 46-4.25 in the weight throw, which was good for fourth place. X'auntasia Johnson collected a pair of top-six finishes in the jump events, taking fifth in the long jump (17-6.25) and sixth in the triple jump (37-5.00). Amanda Caporelli also performed well in the jumps, posting a mark of 5-1.00 in the high jump (good for sixth) and 17-0.00 in the long jump (good for 10th). Tara Markey was fifth in the 800 (2:24.73), Jasmine Cottle was 16th in the 400 (1:02.36) and Megan Ney was sixth in the pentathlon (2,849 points). There was no team scoring in the event. The Spiders return to action January 19 at the Maryland Invitational in College Park, Md.
