Joey Haug was named to the position of volunteer assistant coach in August 2009, coming to the Spiders after a standout playing career at Coastal Carolina University.

Haug will coach the outfielders and assist McQueen with the pitching staff.

Haug played his final two collegiate seasons at Coastal, earning First Team All-Big South and Big South All-Tournament Team honors in 2008. The righty was a spotless 7-0 on the mound that year with a 2.28 ERA in 83.0 innings. In 2007, he was 1-0 with a 3.66 ERA in 19.2 innings.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., Haug earned a bachelors degree in communications from Coastal in 2008. He was a two-year starter at Maple Woods Community College in his hometown before transferring.

Haug spent the last year as a roving pitching instructor at the Coastal Baseball Academy in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and was an evaluator for thediamondprospects.com.
