Baseball Defeats Quinnipiac, 6-1

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND Va. - Third baseman David Thomas crushed his first home run of the season to lead the University of Richmond baseball team to a 6-1 victory against Quinnipiac in the first game of a doubleheader this afternoon at Pitt Field.

Richmond shortstop Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) singled to center field and sophomore Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) doubled to right field to open the bottom of the first. Freshman Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.) and senior A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) knocked in LeNoir and Zeskind to give the Spiders a 2-0 lead.

After scoring another run in the second, the Spiders added three runs on two hits in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.) earned a walk and moved to third on a Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.) doubled to center. Thomas (McLean, Va.) followed with a three-run shot over the left center wall.

The Bobcats put their only run on the board in the sixth inning. Paul Santucci doubled down the left field line, allowing Bryan Sabatella to score.

Derek Duclos (Exton, Pa.) improved to 3-0 by strucking out 12, allowing only two hits and one run in six innings. Dave Bennett (0-1) struck out five and allowed all six runs in a complete-game loss for Quinnipac.

The Spiders and the Bobcats start their second game of the this afternoon at 2:20 p.m.
