    UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond captured its ninth-straight win at Pitt Field with a 10-1 victory over the visiting Tribe of William and Mary. The Spiders tallied seven extra-base hits, pounding out five doubles, one triple and one home run. Richmond improves to 11-1, while William and Mary falls to 12-6.

    Centerfielder A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) homered in the bottom of the second to start the Spiders' scoring.

    In the third, Richmond continued the pace, hitting four doubles. Senior Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.) doubled down the rightfield line to start the inning. Following Chiaravalloti, Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) belted a double down the left field line to score Chiaravalloti. Senior Michael Galligan (Woodbury, N.Y.) added the third double and fourth run on Board's two-bagger.

    The Spiders added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Third baseman Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) tripled and reached home on a Chiaravalloti' groundout. In the fifth, designated hitter Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.) singled, sending in Galligan.

    In the eighth, second baseman Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) singled. Shortstop David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md.) followed, singling to centerfield and sending in LeNoir. Reaver then scored on a Zeskind single. John Cronin (Branford, Conn.), pinch-running for Chiaravalloti, added Richmond's final run on a Galligan single.

    Junior Matt McLoughlin (San Diego, Calif.) started for Richmond, striking out six batters in 7.0 innings. McLoughlin (2-1) allowed three hits, one earned run, and walked two, earning the win.

     

     

    William & Mary's Michael Brown scored their only run in the second, off of a wild pitch. Chris Ray took the loss for the Tribe, striking out six Spiders in 7.0 innings.

    Richmond returns to action this weekend in an away-home-away series with VCU. The Spiders will play at VCU on Friday, March 14 at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday, March 15, Richmond hosts the Rams at 1:00 p.m. at Pitt Field.

    NOTE: Right-hander Tim Stauffer (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) added Sports Weekly/ESPN's Player of the Week to his accolades for the week of March 10. The junior ace received Collegiate Baseball's "Louisville Slugger's" Player of the Week and Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week after striking out a career-high 15 batters on March 8. Stauffer (2-0) carries a 2.45 ERA after three starts and 22.0 innings pitched. He leads Richmond in strikeouts (36), while walking three this year.
