Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. - Jim Fasano ripped a two-run single in the eighth inning to lead the University of Richmond baseball team to an 8-6 victory against Virginia Commonwealth University this afternoon at the Diamond. VCU (10-7) out-hit the Spiders (11-3), 14-7.

Freshman Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.) tallied two hits and two runs for the Spiders and the Rams were led by Scott Sizemore with four hits.

Shortstop Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) scored for Richmond in the first before VCU posted three runs of its own on four hits.

In the second, catcher Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.) doubled to left center, allowing Farkes to score, and then the Spiders put two runs on the board in the third. LeNoir, Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) and Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) all walked, loading the bases. A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) singled to right, scoring LeNoir, and Zeskind crossed the plate on a wild pitch. The Rams responded with their final three runs of the contest and after three innings the score stood at 6-4.

After four scoreless innings, the Spiders took control and recorded four unanswered runs in the eighth. Farkes started the rally with a double down the left field line and then Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.) reached base on an error and Farkes scored. Left fielder Anthony Sandstrom (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) singled to right field and LeNoir walked. Zeskind reached on an error and Wotring scored, tying the game at six. With the bases loaded, Fasano nailed the game-winning two-run single to center field.

Left-hander Nathan Kuchta (Victor, N.Y.) pitched 1.1 innings to post his first win of the season and John Cronin (Branford, Conn.) recorded his third save. VCU's Cla Meredith took the loss after allowing three runs in one inning on the mound.
