Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond ended VCU's 13-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory at the Diamond. The Spiders improved to 12-1, while the Rams fall to 15-4.

The Spiders took the lead, which they would not give up, in the second inning. Senior leftfielder Michael Galligan (Woodbury, N.Y.) got Richmond started with a single to left field. Centerfielder A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) singled to advance the Spider base-runner to third. Junior DH Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.) plated Galligan and advanced Board on another single into right-center field. Board and Dolan added runs on a balk and passed ball by the Rams.

Adding a cushion to the Spider's lead, junior catcher Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md.) blasted his first home run of the season into the signs of left field.

Sophomore lefty Tim Rice (Brookfield, Conn.) started for the Spiders and earned the win. Rice (2-0) fanned six Rams in five innings, while allowing one earned run and walking two. Classmate Jason Bolinski (Hockessin, Del.) received the save, holding VCU to two hits in four innings. Bolinski struck out seven batters and did not allow a walk.

Richmond allowed one Ram, Paul Swack, to score in the third inning on a fielder's choice. VCU's Sean Marshall (1-1) took the loss.

The Spiders and Rams continue the series tomorrow, Saturday, March 15 at Pitt Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
