UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond baseball team posted its third consecutive loss, dropping a 6-4 decision to Penn State at Pitt Field this afternoon. The Spiders' record falls to 11-6, while the Nittany Lions improve to 6-6.

Left fielder Derrrick Barr led the Nittany Lions' attack with two hits and two runs, while Richmond junior Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) tallied two hits, including his eighth home run of the season, one run and one RBI.

Penn State opened the game with two runs on two hits, including a home run, in the first and then recorded another run in the second inning.

In the third inning, Penn State extended its lead by posting two more runs, before the Spiders responded with their first run of the game, a Fasano homer over the right field wall, to close the gap to 5-1 after four.

The Spiders recorded three runs and cut PSU's lead to one, 5-4, in the sixth inning. Freshman Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.) ripped a triple to right field and then John Cronin (Branford, Conn.) singled back to the pitcher to start the rally. Jim O'Leary (Wantagh, N.Y.) later doubled down the left field line, allowing Cronin to score and then crossed the plate on a balk by PSU pitcher Sean Stidfole.

Penn State scored closed the scoring with a run in the ninth inning.

Thomas Martin (Charlottesville, Va.) allowed six hits and five runs in 2.2 innings and took the loss for the Spiders. Jim Farrell struck out six and posted his second win of the season for the Nittany Lions.

Richmond and Penn State return to Pitt Field on Sunday, with game time scheduled for 2 p.m. Please make note the game time was originally 1 p.m.
