No. 10 Baseball Sets New Home Win-Streak

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Spiders Michael Galligan (Woodbury, N.Y.) and Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) ripped the game-winning homers in Richmond's doubleheader sweep against Temple, 4-3 and 9-4. With the wins, the Spiders established the longest home win-strek in program history, 14 games. Richmond improves to 17-2 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic 10, while Temple falls to 2-12 and 0-2 in the A-10. Answering Temple's 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, Galligan belted a double to score Fasano. Designated hitter Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.) plated Galligan in the next at-bat, singling to left-center field. Finishing out the frame, catcher Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md.) singled to left-center, scoring Dolan. Temple came back to tie the contest 3-3 on of a Jeff Roma two-run homer in the seventh. In the eighth inning, Galligan blasted the game-winning homer to lift Richmond in the Atlantic 10 opener. Richmond's ace Tim Stauffer (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) hurled his third complete game of the year, allowing six hits and two earned runs. Stauffer (4-0) struck out 14 in 8.0 innings. In the second game of the afternoon, Richmond overcame a 4-2 Temple lead to capture the win. Second baseman David Thomas (McLean, Va.) and Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.) collected two runs in the first inning off of a Fasano single and Galligan groundout.
The Spider bats exploded in the fourth. On a two-out Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) sacrifice fly, Tidball scored to start the rally. Fasano then ripped a three-run homer to right-center to put the Spiders ahead, 6-4.
In the fifth inning, shortstop David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md.) singled to left-center field, plating junior Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill.), who had walked. Richmond increased the lead in the sixth with solo home runs from Chiaravalloti and Galligan. Jason Bolinski (Hockessin, Del.) earned his third win of the year, tying a career high with nine strikeouts. The right-hander allowed two hits in 5.0 innings of work. Temple's Matt Powell (0-4) and Mike Caron (1-4) took the losses. Powell threw his third complete game of the season for the Owls. The Spiders and Owls will conclude the three-game set tomorrow, Sunday, March 23. First pitch is scheduled for Noon at Pitt Field. |
