UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Jim O'Leary's walk, with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, scored the winning run and the University of Richmond baseball team defeated Saint Joseph's, 5-4, completing a sweep of this afternoon's doubleheader at Pitt Field.

First baseman Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) went 2-for-2 including an RBI and senior Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) added two hits and two runs to lead the Spiders (13-9, 2-0). The Hawks' (4-22, 0-2) Jason Tarewicz led the team with two hits and two RBI.

Richmond put one run on the board in the first when LeNoir scored on a single to left field by freshman Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.). LeNoir led off the inning with a single to left field.

In the second, Saint Joseph's tied the game at one, before Richmond scored one run in the bottom of the inning. Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J) doubled down the left field line and knocked in John Cronin (Branford, Conn.).

The Hawks posted one run a piece in the third, fourth and fifth innings before the Spiders tallied two runs in the sixth. Fasano walked, Matt McKenna (Richmond, Va.) was hit by a pitch and then O'Leary (Wantagh, N.Y.) singled to right field, allowing Fasano to score. Senior Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill.) knocked in pinch-runner Lee Rattigan (Bedford, N.H.) and the score was tied at 4-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, the bases were loaded with two outs when O'Leary drew a walk forcing the winning run to cross the plate.

Cronin recorded his first win of the season after pitching two innings and the Hawks' Ryan Hoagey allowed eight hits, five runs and took the loss.

 

 

The Spiders and the Hawks concluded their three-game conference series Sunday at noon.
