Baseball Completes Sweep of Saint Joseph's, 8-7

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Jim Fasano's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning scored Bobby LeNoir and the University of Richmond baseball team defeated Saint Joseph's University 8-7 in the final contest of the three-game series this afternoon at Pitt Field. Senior A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) led the Spiders" (14-9, 3-0) attack with three hits, two runs and two RBI and LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) went 2-for-4 including two runs and one RBI. Ryan Stadanlick led the Hawks (4-23, 0-3) with two hits and three RBI. The Hawks scored a run in the first and then Richmond responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning. Board singled down the left field line and knocked in LeNoir, who had reached on a single. Saint Joseph's went ahead, when it scored two runs in the third and one in fourth before the Spiders tallied a run in the bottom of the fourth and the score stood at 4-2. The Spiders grabbed the 6-4 lead when they recorded two runs a piece in the sixth and seventh innings, but the Hawks responded with three runs in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, Richmond scored its two game-winning runs on three hits. John Cronin (Branford, Conn.) began the rally with a single to center field and then LeNoir singled to right field, knocking in Cronin. Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) singled and moved LeNoir to third before Fasano flied out to center field and scored LeNoir. Cronin pitched two innings and allowed only one run to post the win for Richmond. Jason Volker allowed three hits and two runs and took the loss for the Hawks.
The Spiders return to the field when they host Radford on Tuesday, March 30 at 2:30 p.m.
