Baseball Slides By Fordham 5-4

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA. - A sacrifice fly by Alex Wotring in the bottom of the seventh inning led the Spiders to a 5-4 victory against Fordham University (11-15-1, 4-3), this afternoon at Pitt Field. The Rams put three runs on the board in the second inning, before Richmond (16-12, 4-1) responded with two runs on one hit in the fifth. John Cronin (Branford, Conn.) walked and then LeNoir ripped a triple down the right field line and knocked in Cronin. Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill.) grounded out to the shortstop and LeNoir crossed the plate. The Spiders grabbed the 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) started the rally with a double to left center and then David Thomas (McLean, Va.) singled to left field and knocked in Zeskind. Pritz drew a walk, allowing the go-ahead runner to cross the plate. In the seventh, Fordham posted one run on one hit and then the Spiders tallied the winning run in the bottom of the inning. A.J. Board was hit-by-pitch, Zeskind walked, before Wotring's sac fly scored the game-winning run. John Cronin allowed one run and posted his third win of the season and Fordham's Javier Martinez allowed one run and took the loss.
The Spiders and Rams second game of the doubleheader will begin at 2:40 p.m.
