UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Junior left-hander Thomas Martin threw his sixth career complete game and led the Spiders to a 3-1 victory against Duquesne this afternoon in the opening contest of a three-game Atlantic 10 series at Pitt Field.

Martin struck out six and allowed only four hits to improve to 4-1 this spring. He didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning.

Six different Spiders (19-16, 7-3 A-10) collected one hit. Left fielder A.J. Board singled home Ben Zeskind and Jim Fasano in the third to break a scoreless tie. Fasano ripped his team-leading 11th home run with a line drive over the right center wall in the home fifth to give Richmond a 3-0 lead.

The Dukes (12-17, 5-5 A-10) scratched across their only run in the sixth when Dan Schwartzbauer led off the frame with a double and later scored on a Steve Maiolo bloop single down the right field line.

Martin finished the game by retiring the side 1-2-3 in the seventh, striking out the final two batters. Duquesne's Adam Haun fell to 2-4 after allowing three runs on six hits in his fifth complete game of the season.

The Spiders and Dukes will play one more game in today's doubleheader before closing the set with a Noon contest on Sunday.
