SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- She found out her son, Tim, will be making his debut in the big leagues.

The 22-year-old right hander got the news Sunday before his Portland Beavers took the field against Colorado Springs that he'll take the ball Tuesday night when the San Diego Padres are in the Queen City to take on Cincinnati at 7:10 p.m.

'It's a good present for her, a little surprise I'm sure (my parents) weren't expecting. It keeps them on their toes,' Stauffer said. 'They're going to be all out there. There will be a good fan base out there.'

A spot opened up for Stauffer when Padres starter Tim Redding only lasted two-thirds of an inning before leaving with a sore shoulder. He allowed eight runs on five hits and three walks in that span. As the Padres' fifth starter this season, Redding owns an 0-4 record with an 8.76 ERA.
