Oct. 7, 2008
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The baseball teams at the University of Richmond and VCU will together hold their annual Major League Baseball Scout Day Wednesday evening at The Diamond in downtown Richmond. Following the workouts, the teams are set to play an exhibition game at 6:15 p.m. The event is open to the public, as scouts from across Major League Baseball will be in attendance to watch the Spiders and Rams workout. VCU takes its workout from 4-5 p.m., followed by the Spiders from 5-6 p.m. The teams are set to play an exhibition game following the workouts, lasting about 12 innings. The game is scheduled to start about 6:15 p.m. Second-year head coach Mark McQueen returns 26 letterwinners -- four starting pitchers and five starting position players from last year's team that was among the youngest in the Atlantic 10. Richmond's 2009 season opens Feb. 21-22 at Pitt Field with a three-game series versus Niagara.
