Coaching Experience: Baltimore native Jamal Brunt is in his third year as an assistant coach at the University of Richmond, but it is his fifth year with the Spider men's basketball program. Brunt, a former standout at Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Va., was director of basketball operations at Richmond for the past two years. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the basketball office, including organizing the recruiting database and team travel. "Jamal has done a lot for the program during his time here and his knowledge of the game, from both his coaching and playing background, make him a tremendous asset to us," head coach Chris Mooney said. Before joining the Spiders basketball staff in the summer of 2005, Brunt was an assistant coach at his alma mater for the 2002-03 and 2004-05 seasons. At Randolph-Macon, Brunt was involved in all aspects of coaching, including player development, recruiting, monitoring academics, film exchange and breakdown, opponent scouting and on-court coaching. He has also served as a counselor for basketball camps at Randolph-Macon. Brunt was a four-year starter at Randolph-Macon, helping the team to the Division III NCAA Sweet 16 as both a junior and senior. The Yellow Jackets were ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation in both his junior and senior year and the 2002-03 squad won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship. A native of Baltimore, Md., Brunt graduated from St. Frances Academy where he was named honorable mention All-Catholic League and was team captain and MVP as a senior. Brunt received a bachelor's degree in international relations with business economics from Randolph Macon in 2003. |
